Key Guidelines for Online Birth & Death Registration in India

Mandatory 21-Day Rule

Under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act (RBD Act 1969), all births and deaths must be reported to the registrar within 21 days without late fees.

Mandatory Required Documents

  • Hospital Discharge Summary / Slip
  • Parents' Identity Proof (Voter ID / Driving License)
  • Parents' Residence Proof (Electricity Bill / Rent Agreement)
  • Informant Identity Proof (if reported by hospital staff/relative)

QR-Code & Digital Authenticity

Certificates issued through the CRS or state e-District portals carry a QR code and digital signature of the Health Officer / Registrar, eliminating the need for physical stamps.

Delayed Registration Procedure

If an event is not registered within 21 days, registration can be done after 21 to 30 days with late fees, or after 30 days to 1 year with SDM/Executive Magistrate permission.
